Founded in 1956, Drogheda’s St. Peter's Male Voice Choir has earned national recognition as Ireland's leading male voice choir. Conducted since 1996 by highly accomplished musician, Edward Holly, it has developed a remarkable reputation for quality interpretations of a wide range of choral music and is widely renowned for innovative and highly entertaining concerts that draw not only on a wonderful choral tone but also on its solo performers
St. Peter’s Male Voice Choir has appeared on RTÉ Television and Radio on numerous occasions and has received numerous honours for its contribution to the arts. In April 2008, the choir performed a sellout concert in The Helix. On 17th September 2009 St. Peter’s Male Voice Choir performed with internationally acclaimed singer and BBC Television presenter Aled Jones and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra at the National Concert Hall, Dublin
The choir celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2006 by touring New York City, where it performed a Sacred Music Recital to a capacity audience in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and made history when it became the first Irish choir to give a concert at the United Nations. Other major highlights include a recital in St. Bavo’s Cathedral, Ghent, Belgium and a Signature Series performance with internationally acclaimed singer and BBC Television presenter Aled Jones with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra at the National Concert Hall, Dublin in September 2009. On reviewing St. Peter’s Male Voice Choir’s Irish Premiere of J.M. Martin’s The Awakening, Irish Independent critic Pat O’ Kelly said “they respond to its spiritual character with exhilarating dramatic commitment”.
The choirs highly successful début CD, The Awakening, increased not only the ensemble's exposure, but gave music lovers everywhere the opportunity to savour the sound of an Irish male voice choir. This album is still selling successfully as a download.
The choir has broadcast live on RTÉ Radio One on The Pat Kenny Show and the Joe Duffy Liveline Christmas Special. For the past two years the acclaimed live concerts have been broadcast on LMFM on Christmas Day.
